Writing is Imagination in Flight

About Me

My photo
Ruth J. Hartman spends her days herding cats, and her nights spinning mysterious romantic tales that make you smile and laugh out loud - or so she's been told my readers! She, her husband Garry, and their two cats, love to spend time curled up in their recliners watching old Cary Grant movies. Well, the cats, Roxy and Remmie, sit in the people's recliners. Not that the cats couldn't get their own furniture. They just choose to shed on someone else's. You know how selfish those little furry creatures can be.

Five Book Review for "Purrfect Voyage"

Purrfect Voyage by Ruth J. Hartman

Publisher: Turquoise Morning Press

Genre: Contemporary

Length: Short Story (132 pgs)

Heat Level: sweet

Rating: 5 books

She was just trying to catch Arthur, she never meant to fall down the steps and knock herself out…
This author must own cats herself. She understands all too well feline wiles and how they can manipulate you. Ms. Hartman also has a sense of humor. It makes her story fun to read.
Her characters are both busy people who live alone. He’s married to his work; she was jilted at the altar. When they meet in the galley of the boat after her fall, neither one is looking forward to spending two weeks together. Unfortunately they are well at sea by the time she wakes up and he has to deliver the boat to Hawaii within a certain time frame. She decides leaving Alaska behind to spend some time in the sun in Hawaii might not be a bad thing.
Ms. Hartman names the cat Arthur. The male character is also an Arthur, which creates some comic confusion. When he suggests they call the cat “kitty”, she objects because her name is Kitty! There are several other scenes that will make you smile as they try to adjust to each other. It’s especially hard because he doesn’t like cats…
The story is well paced and keeps your interest. It’s fun to watch the characters try to avoid the attraction between them. The author drew me into her story easily and I enjoyed watching the antics of the cat and the people both. I found this to be a very good read, why not get yourself a copy and try it?

Review of Flossophy of Grace

I’ve never known anyone who goes to the dentist office and has a good time, at least not till I met Grace Hart and Bruce Gardener. Ruth J. Hartman, the author of Flossophy of Grace shows us that we can find love even in the most painful place.

Grace Hart is a dental hygienist who has love for her six cats but really dreams of loving a man. She doesn’t see much hope in that until Bruce Gardener comes into her office for a cleaning. As the story goes on the reader learns Bruce has come to Grace’s office for more than just dental work. He’s there for Grace’s heart. He loves Grace enough to go through all kinds of torture just to be able to see her.

Grace Hart doesn’t believe that a good looking man like Bruce could love someone like her due to she isn’t the beauty most men are looking for. It doesn’t take Grace long to realize Bruce finds her beautiful and is serious about loving her. He even loves her cats.

These two love birds have to find creative ways to see each other since Grace’s mean boss has restricted her from seeing Bruce due to he’s a patient. This brings a lot of humorous scenes to the story.

Ms. Hartman keeps Flossophy of Grace flowing with a quick wittiness that made me laugh out loud several times. I love the fact that she took average people and showed that it’s possible to find love.

You might feel pain after coming out of your dentist office, but I guarantee you after reading Flossophy of Grace the only thing you are going to feel is joy and love.

Review for "Flossophy of Grace" by Mysti Parker

Review of "Flossophy of Grace" by Ruth J Hartman

This week, I had the pleasure of reading Ruth J Hartman's Flossophy of Grace. You may remember Ruth from my first author interview HERE. In this book, Ruth has drawn from her experience as a dental hygienist to write a sweet, funny romantic tale about two lonely people who were destined to be together.

Grace Hart is a thirty-something lonely dental hygienist. Well, not exactly. She has six furry babies that require her to keep a job so she can feed and shelter them. Even with the companionship of her cats, she feels a void that can only be filled by a handsome patient that walks into the office one day.

Bruce Gardener--tall, dark, handsome, and goofy as they come--is new in town. He's lonely too. Seems like he's never found a woman that can match (or put up with) his zany character. When he meets Grace, though, he knows right away that she's the woman for him.

Unfortunately for them, Grace's wicked boss Dr. Beeth (rhymes with teeth, don't ya know) throws a wrench in their relationship when he declares that Grace cannot be seen cavorting with a patient. Bruce is undeterred, however, and signs up to receive every kind of dental treatment that Grace can offer. Yes, he's that brave.

Ms. Hartman has written a light-heated, sweet romantic tale with characters so endearing, you'd like to meet them in real life. Grace and Bruce are both selfless and kind, and their conversations are hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud several times and was quite surprised I finished the 109 page-story so quickly. It's not that often that I find a piece of writing that flows so well from page to page.

If I had to nitpick about anything, I'd say that Dr. Beeth's portrayal at times felt a little TOO evil. Then again, I once worked for a man who's name also rhymed with teeth, who had a predisposition for four letter words, so his portrayal might not be that exaggerated after all. The obstacles he throws in Grace's way did serve to make her a stronger character, and I kept rooting for her and Bruce to have the last laugh.

Bottom line: If you're looking for a sweet romantic tale with lots of laughs that will tickle your heart with warm fuzzies, pick up Flossophy of Grace. It's a treat!

Five Rose Review for "Purrfect Voyage"

Five Rose Review by Sizzling Hot Books

Kitty Carter writes children’s books based on her cat, Arthur. She is at the marina doing research for a book when he takes off chasing a mouse. Trying to catch him leads her to a yacht where she falls down the stairs and is knocked unconscious. She doesn’t wake until the boat is already out to sea and on its way to Hawaii. While she always has wanted to and never been able to afford to go to Hawaii, she has a writing deadline to meet. Her mean (in many ways) publisher will not understand her missing her deadline nor being unable to contact him.

Arthur ‘George’ Katz owns a small construction company. He works long and hard, but is still barely making it. He wants to be successful, rich really. Like his childhood friend John. John has it all: a great career, a loving wife and family, a thriving medical practice, lots of money, and even this yacht. John has moved to Hawaii and has asked him to bring the yacht over during his vacation since he loves spending time on the yacht and fishing. The last thing he expects to find is a stowaway. Even if she is attractive, funny, and making this the best trip he has even taken. But he has a problem with cats ever since a childhood “incident.” He does have to admit that Arthur is changing his mind about that,
Kitty and ‘George’ have a great trip. They mostly get along. They are even attracted to each other, but don’t know each other well enough to know what to do about that. There are two big problems, though. Kitty has some trust issues. Her fiancĂ© left her at the alter, literally, and ran off with her best friend. George is obsessed with making money. So when this trip is over, where will that leave them? They have come to care for each other, but can they find a way to be together? Or will they be stuck in the same old routines?

Purrfect Voyage might get a few complaints about two things: just how clumsy Kitty is and some of Arthur the cat’s mannerisms. I, however, have nothing to grip about here over either of these. While I have not given myself but one concussion, I use to be almost as clumsy as Kitty is here. And as for Arthur, my mother has had cats like this more than once over the years. So while these antics may just be for humor in the story, I have lived them when I was younger (at my mother’s house).

Purrfect Voyage is one thing that is harder to find right now: a completely clean romance. (I am not giving anything away, this was listed next to the blurb online, so those looking to buy would find this out anyway.) These are two adults with dating experience (never says if Kitty slept with her ex-fiancĂ© or not), but the most that happens is some kissing. Even after two weeks alone together on a yacht at sea! Wow, I am impressed. While this maybe hard to believe for some, it would be weird to jump into bed with a complete stranger no matter how many fantasy stories are written that way. Can be fun to read, but not to do in real life. It is nice to see an author to stick to her ‘guns’ on this.
As for Purrfect Voyage itself, I haven’t laughed this much in months! On, my goodness, Ruth had me laughing enough I had to read part of the story to my husband just so he would know I was okay and not loosing my mind. I don’t want to go into too much detail so as not to give away any of the funny parts but there are some great scenes here.
I am recommending Purrfect Voyage for everyone. Even if you don’t go for clean reads, this is too funny to miss and will brighten you day. While it takes George a little bit to get the bigger picture, Kitty toughens it out, stands up for herself. As a cat lover myself, of course I loved Arthur and am sure you will as well.
