Writing is Imagination in Flight

About Me

My photo
Ruth J. Hartman spends her days herding cats, and her nights spinning mysterious romantic tales that make you smile and laugh out loud - or so she's been told my readers! She, her husband Garry, and their two cats, love to spend time curled up in their recliners watching old Cary Grant movies. Well, the cats, Roxy and Remmie, sit in the people's recliners. Not that the cats couldn't get their own furniture. They just choose to shed on someone else's. You know how selfish those little furry creatures can be.

Rachel Rocks! - Blog Hop

Rachel Van Dyken
Rachel Van Dyken, a personal friend of mine got the most thrilling news when we were all at a convention a couple of weeks ago. It was every writer's dream - a huge contract and publishing deal with Grand Central Publishing (Hatchette)! She was so excited! And let me tell you, she totally deserves it!

Rachel is sweet, caring, hard-working, and a fantastic writer! She has helped me so much in my own writing, and I will be forever grateful :)

Here's one of her books. It was so hard to pick just one for the hop, so I picked one that means a lot to me. This book is the reason I became interested in writing Regency Romances. Because Rachel does it so well! I love the fact that her Regencies all have humor. That just makes it for me :)

Waltzing with the Wallflower (Waltzing with the Wallflower, #1)

So several of us are hosting a huge blog hop in Rachel's honor, giving away prizes, and basically giving Rachel a big cyber high-five :)

I'll be giving away two ebooks of my Regency Romance, "Rescued by a Duke" Just leave me a comment here, along with your email addy to be in the contest for my giveaway :)

Humor is definitely what sells a book for me. Rachel's books make me crack up.

I agree. Humor makes the characters more likeable. But there needs to be a balance that keeps the story from becoming too cartoonish. I think Rachel manages to keep that balance. Nice blog, Ruth! Have fun on the hop.

Great blog post, Ruth. Humour is almost like an additional character, and like any character if they get out of hand..... rofl.

It takes a special kind of writer to make a book funny. Some people can be funny all the time, but in writing it falls flat. I think it's part skill & part natural talent that allows a writer to deliver scene after scene of hilarity between characters. I aspire to someday... :)

Humor is definitely an important element for me as a reader--whether it is romance or mystery or action. After all, humor is what gets us through life without any permanent wounds to our spirits. Rachel's writing is golden for me because of the humor in her stories. I find myself guffawing at some of the conversations in her romances! You go, Rachel! jdh2690@gmail.com

I agree with you about Rachel's books and humor. She manages to inject it into all of her books in some manner, no matter how serious they are! She has some great one liners! jmsava@aol.com
