Trixie Trident - Tooth Fairy Extraordinaire

Hi Humans,

My name is Trixie Trident. I'm a tooth fairy in the story, "Pillow Talk." Although you wouldn't know I'm a tooth fairy just by looking. I'm the same size as an average human woman. No wings. And I definitely won't be wearing a tutu any time soon! That's not a good look for anyone, know what I mean? The writer of my story, Ruth J. Hartman, asked if I would mind telling you a little about myself. So for a while, I'll be doing her blog posts.

By day, I make handmade jewelry. I have a knack for looking at something ordinary, like a button, or an acorn, and creating a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. And I do enjoy doing that. But my night job is my passion. Climbing in windows to steal exfoliated teeth from little kids is what I live for. But being a tooth fairy isn't something you can fill out a resume for, or apply for online. No, being a TF is something you're born with. And I was fortunate enough to get the gift.

I love all of my little dental charges. They are all unique. But there's this one kid, little Timmy Westfellar. He loses so many teeth, his mouth will be bald by the second grade. I'm getting kinda tired of climbing in that particular window. I keep thinking one of these days, I stop getting my night-time calls from my supervisor to go to his house. But for now, to Timmy's house I'll go...

Pillow Talk

I just found out that "Pillow Talk," my contemporary romance about a tooth fairy falling in love with her dentist, will be released August 15th by Class Act Books.

Switching Writing Gears

I finished my latest romance novel about a tooth fairy falling in love with her dentist. Sent it to a publisher. The waiting part is hard, but to use my time wisely, I've started writing a new romance novel. I'm over 4,000 words in. This one is about a chance meeting on a small yacht. The man and the woman's cat have the same name. So far, writing about the confusion that ensues has been fun. But I find myself sliding back into my last story. Sometimes my characters' names, situations and personality quirks run together in my mind. But that just makes me work all the harder on the present story, and it doesn't make it any less enjoyable to write, that's for sure!

Writers, have any of you ever had similar problems? I'd enjoy hearing your comments.

What Does Your Character Do While You're At Work?

It's a bad week for writing. Between having a family member in the hospital, working extra days, doing a weekend craft show, and getting ready for another relative's visit, my writing has taken a virtual back seat. My romance about the Tooth Fairy and her dentist waits patiently  for me to return. I can picture her sitting in her living room drumming her petite tooth-stealing fingers on her coffee table. And then I wonder, while I'm away dealing with the recent developments in my life, what is she doing? Surely she'd be bored simply sitting there waiting for me. Hmmm. I think I'd better get back to her story soon. Otherwise, who knows what crazy stuff she'll do without me there to write for her?

Facebook Imitates Life

Just now, a friend on Facebook asked everyone several "remember when?" questions: first crush, first car, first kiss, best friends from high school. I really had to think back for some of those answers! But after I answered her questions, I realized I could use those memories and emotions for characters in my romance novel. I mean, why not? I remember how I felt during each of those big life events. I'll put those great memories to good use! Thanks, Lisa :)
